Hello from the Gunnison Valley Peaceful Warriors. We are proud to report that this year the kids raised upwards of $1400 during their five month pitch-a-thon. This season-long ordeal brought its participants a difficult challenge: first to get the sponsors and the idea of what a pitch-a-thon is, then to keep tabs the entire season on all of their climbing ventures. And with 10 year olds climbing upwards of 250 pitches, you are talking about some serious journal balancing! Our fundraiser was tuned towards international and local causes as all of the kids that participated told their sponsors 50% was headed to AFCA and the other half is going to local causes. So, with all that said the Peaceful Warriors are representing $700 to the AFCA with nothing but a large desire to learn to do better next year.
Description:
The Gunnison Valley Climbing Experience offers the youth of Gunnison County the ability to explore rock recreation areas in the county. This season the Experience will offer eight different classes to children from the ages of 5 to 18.
The participants of these classes are given the opportunity to participate in Climb Up So Kids Can Grow Up. Those who choose to be part of The Climb will acquire sponsors locally or over the internet for each pitch or hour-long bouldering session they complete. A pitch can be anywhere from 35 to 90 feet long, depending on the climbing area.
Also, over the weekend of Sept. 20 and 21 we will co-host the 4th annual Butte Boulder Bonanza in Crested Butte, CO where we will collect additional donations and where our check will be presented to AFCA. This is truly kids helping kids!
